I've Shown You Mine, Now Show Me Yours (Part I).

The most recent Book Post entry, Show Me Your Writing Desk, in which I shared my writing desk and encouraged you to reciprocate, is proving to be a revealing exercise in creative exposure. There can be no more nakedly personal space to a writer than where they spin their words.

Above are three examples of the writing desks of working writers:

Left: The desk of Nick Earls, author of 12 books including ZigZag Street. The shot was taken 'Mid-last book tour. Only slightly tidier now, but every few months I shovel the piles somewhere and find the desk again.'

Middle: The 'desk' of Kathy Charles, author of Hollywood Ending. 'All the furniture I need is a pug as a foot stool,' she quipped.

Right: The tidy desk of Sandra Lee, author of 18 Hours and Beyond Bad (Incidentally, the most disturbing Australian true crime book I have ever read.) 'Blackbutt, custom made, with wedding ring, bracelet, phone, water, pens, notebooks and of course, The Book Post on screen'.

Whether your desk is tidy, chaotic or non-existent, there is no right way to write as long as you do, as proved by these contrasting images of writer's work spaces.

Quid pro quo. We've shown you ours, now show us yours, and I'll continue to post the best on The Book Post...

Happy reading,
